Major Search Engines-
There is enumerable number of search engines but not all are of good standard and good service provider. Among the highly ranked search engines, Google comes first followed by Yahoo! and MSN. Research report submitted by Nielson suggested that Google is the mostly used search engine on the Web with a 54% market share, followed by Yahoo! 23% and MSN 13%, however various independent research have revealed that 80% of Web search is generated through Google, 15% through Yahoo and just 5% searches is made through MSN.

Google: Panacea for All Searches
The founder of Google is two Standardford University graduates Larry Page and Sergey Brin. In early 1996, they have set up a search engine called BackRub that have the ability to check back-link pointing to a webpage. Falling short of money, they relied on low-end PCs to build server but the unique way of searching sites spread so quickly and their work get noticed by many in no time. Their friends including David Filo, Yahoo! co-founder, suggested to start up a search engine company, so they change the name of search engine to Google taken from googol which means number 1 followed by 100 zeros and set up a new company on 7th September 1998.
Google.Inc. is the most dominant and highly ranked search engine available today. Due to its brand recognition, trustworthy image plus accuracy, people choose it first as they go for any searches on the net. Various independent researches have revealed that Google search engine receives about a billion search requests per day.
Next achievement made by Google in 2000 was the replacement of Inktomi on Yahoo as a supplementary search results provider. Google further started to supply data as a primary search result to other search engines like Yahoo, America Online, Netscape, BBCi and Freeserve, through which Google gathered more revenues.
In June 2000, it announced a database of over 560 million pages, which grew to 4 billion in February 2004. With each passing day, Google added new capabilities like image search, news search, shopping search through Froogle and local search options. Google further announced the series of diverse services like Gmail, Google Earth, Google book search. All new features are unique, informative and highly usable.
Another reason why Google became more popular is, it has databases in the form of Google Groups, News and Directory and it can accommodate different files like PDF, PS, DOC and many other file types which have made searches more easy and relevant.
Today, Google is in dominant position and it is due to inclusion of varied services successively. Many of its rivals withered away while on competition, but Google withstand all challenges and have become huge revenue earning software process. Nowadays, people strive hard to achieve good ranking in Google search result page and good ranking have brought a great difference in their business processes.
